I suggest you a selection of films about casino and gambling business. I tried to collect pictures of different genres and eras. Enjoy.
Casino (1995)
Martin Scorsese drama about the cruelty of gambling industry in XX century Vegas, love, thirst for power, envy and other vices. One of the best roles of Joe Pesci and Robert De Niro. For the role of a prostitute, who became the beloved but unloving wife of the head of one of the major casinos in Las Vegas, Sharon Stone was nominated for an Oscar and Golden Globe. Until now, this role is considered the most worthy in her career.
P.S. Casino is my favorite movie on the subject. Type in Youtube “Casino – Joe Pesci Angry Moments” – pure pleasure.
Casino Royale (2006)
The best movie from Bondiana for me, which you must review not only because the casino is insanely beautiful. This is the debut of Daniel Craig as the main special agent of the universe. In this film, also, charming Eva Green played her most famous role to date, who for a long time expected the glory of the second Monica Bellucci. Karlovy Vary resort is charmingly shown in Casino Royal, although the story line seems to be like from Montenegro.
Ocean’s 11 (2011)
Of course, it would be more correct to revise the original of 1960 with Shirley MacLaine and Frank Sinatra, but this remake is also worth watching. We love this movie for constantly chewing something in the frame of Brad Pitt, for the color of the shirts of the main characters, for Vladimir Klichko in the ring with Lennox Lewis and for the soundtrack.
Maverick (1994)
A fun movie about poker in the Wild West. The hero of Mel Gibson, a man with probably the most blue eyes on the planet, a professional card player. The film revolves around his intention to win the poker championship, the prize – a sum that is ridiculous by today’s standards of $ 25 thousand. Not only competitor-cheaters, but also a charming thief in the performance of Jodie Foster can interfere with Mel.
Croupier (1998)
Quite good, but not particularly well-known role of Clive Owen. A young writer in search of inspiration arranges for work in a casino. Gambling doesn’t attract him and every night at work he just coolly collects inspiration to begin writing the main novel of his life. But finally, he also fall into gambling … not without women’s help.
Hangover (2009)
The film, of course, is not so much about the casino, as the most charming phenomenon in the world – a group of men under alcohol and drugs doin’ silly things. The film took the Golden Globe as the best comedy, and was also awarded the British Film Academy nomination for the screenplay. But these merits are nothing compared to the love of viewers all over the world.
The Sting (1973)
A great buddy movie with Paul Newman and Robert Redford about male friendship, mutual assistance, resourcefulness and, of course, poker. The film took a bunch of awards, including 7 Oscars, nominated for 11. One of the pearls of this picture is the soundtrack, Scott Joplin’s ragtime.
21 (2008)
A fascinating film about a teacher of higher mathematics at a technical university, who collected the best students in order to develop a scheme for beating blackjack. The drama is based on real events, the teacher – Kevin Spacey plays very well as always, the movie is dynamic and sharp, a kind of gymnastics for the mind.
